SUMMARY

This two-part series workshop aims to shed light on the issue of intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetrated by teenagers, exploring the underlying causes, risk factors, and effective intervention strategies. Participants will gain insights into identifying and responding to abusive behaviors in teens, with a focus on rehabilitation and promoting healthy relationship dynamics. This workshop is designed to foster a supportive and proactive community capable of addressing and preventing intimate partner violence among teenagers who choose to harm, ultimately contributing to healthier and safer relationships for young people.

OBJECTIVES

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the factors contributing to IPV in teenagers who chose to harm.
  • Be able to identify signs of abusive behavior and understand the associated risk factors.
  • Be equipped with practical strategies to prevent and respond to abusive behaviors.
  • Feel confident in supporting and rehabilitating strategies for teenagers who chose to harm and connecting them with appropriate resources.

SPEAKERS

Zitlalli Roman, MSW, QMHP, CPAIP, CDVP,  graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois Chicago in 2016. She has been employed at Turning Point for 8 years, she is the Partner Abuse Intervention Program Supervisor. Zitlalli is certified as a Partner Abuse Intervention Program Professional and as a Domestic Violence Professional. Zitlalli is currently working on her clinical license. During her time at Turning Point, Zitlalli has acquired experience in different departments and services such as shelter case management, individual and group counseling for survivors, crisis intervention, outreach, PAIP groups, and Parenting groups. She specializes in working with individuals who choose to harm in intimate relationships.

Alec Consigny, BA, MHP, CDVP,  graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Roosevelt University in 2021. Currently, he is in the process of completing a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology at Roosevelt University. Alec has been an employee of Turning Point for the last 3 years, he is a Domestic Violence Children’s Advocate. Alec obtained his Domestic Violence Professional certification in 2022. During his time at Turning Point, he has had experience within the Partner Abuse Intervention Program, crisis intervention, case management, as well as Children’s counseling. Alec specializes in providing psycho-educational counseling to children who have witnessed violence between caregivers throughout the course of their development.

Elissa Crowley, BFA, MHP, CDVP,  has been a dedicated member of Turning Point, Inc. since November 2019. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin Superior in 2011 and began her career in youth programming. Elissa has extensive experience working in schools, park districts, and non-profits, including a notable seven-year tenure with the YMCA. During her time at Turning Point, Elissa earned her certification as an Illinois Domestic Violence Professional. In the summer of 2021, she was instrumental in establishing a new Outreach and Prevention department. This department focuses on developing robust prevention and outreach programs, aiming to educate individuals about their right to healthy and safe relationships. In the 2023-24 school year alone, the Outreach and Prevention department reached over 18,000 youth and adults.
