SUMMARY

This training is an introduction to Acceptance and Commitment therapy, one of the “third wave” of behavioral and cognitive therapies currently being used for a wide range of mental health conditions including anxiety, PTSD and psychosis. The audience will be exposed to concepts related to using acceptance and mindfulness and the notion of assisting people to develop “psychological flexibility.” How to help clients identify values and how to take committed action towards what is important to them will also be included.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Summarize basic techniques used in ACT.
  2. Describe and demonstrate how to help clients increase psychological flexibility.
  3. Learn how to help clients explore what is important to them and how to take committed action towards living by those values.
