The McHenry County Mental Health Board (MCMHB) is a special purpose unit of government regulated through the Community Mental Health Act. The Community Mental Health Act governs the Mental Health Board and empowers the Mental Health Board to administer a levy through the direction of a 9-member board of community representatives appointed by the County Board. Our levy is currently under the Special Retail Tax in 55 ILCS 5 of Counties Code, which is the enabling legislation for this sales tax and gives authority to a Mental Health Board and connects the function to the Community Mental Health Act.

For County Fiscal Year 2026, the MCMHB has allocated $10,262,690 in local funds supporting MCMHB network services and activities including 31 agencies offering a continuum of 65+ services, programs and projects providing prevention, treatment, and recovery support for McHenry County residents.  In addition, the MCMHB has allocated $683,000 Opioid Settlement funds, supporting treatment and recovery services for opioid use disorders and other substance use disorders and programs per Approved Abatement Program list.

Twenty Second Judicial Circuit Court

The Twenty Second Judicial Circuit Office of Special Projects administers, coordinates and monitors the Adult Drug Court, DUI Court, and Mental Health Court programs as well as any other special project assigned by the Trial Court Administrator.

  • Specialty Courts Programs (Mental Health, DUI, and Drug Courts) services are provided with an interdisciplinary  team  approach  including  circuit  judge,  prosecutor,  defense  attorney,  law  enforcement  officer,  probation  officers  and  treatment  professionals.  Services  include  comprehensive behavioral health and physical health assessments, service plan development, engagement and support, consultation, and compliance monitoring.
  • Peer Support Specialist uses Recovery Support Specialists who commit to supporting, guiding, and being a support person to those individuals for a period of at least one year. By becoming part of the social network of adults and community members who care about the afflicted with a mental illness and substance use disorder, the Peer Support Specialist can help the individual to develop and reach positive academic, career and personal goals.

  • Psychiatric Support Services work as part of a multi‐disciplinary team to provide holistic and comprehensive medical and counseling services to McHenry County residents with mental and behavioral health challenges. This holistic approach, leveraging best practices and evidence based treatment, is a proven method for assisting clients in achieving overall wellness so that a client can engage with social and community supports, improve overall functioning and remain productive. AID, in partnership with Genoa‐QoL Pharmacy, provides in person and telepsychiatry services in McHenry County (including nursing five days a week to integrate primary and behavioral healthcare), scheduling (5 days a week to document nursing visits, coordinate client appointments and serve as a liaison for tele-health/psychiatry), remote tele‐psychiatry (1-2 days a week), and psychotropic medication services.
  • Behavioral Health Supportive Living Services program offers intense, customized community coordination services focused on homeless prevention, treatment, support, and recovery, providing integrated primary and behavioral healthcare, psychiatric services, and supportive housing services to at-risk McHenry residents with mental and behavioral health challenges who have no other means of support.
  • Behavioral Health Recovery Support Services will continue to support outreach and comprehensive behavioral health recovery support services for residents with mental and behavioral health challenges who are uninsured, under-insured, ineligible for entitlements or other sources of funding. Services include: therapy and individual counseling (bilingual), marriage and family counseling (bilingual), medication management, psycho-social rehabilitation, assistance in securing entitlements for those who are eligible (Medicaid/Medicare/Social Security/Social Security Disability/LINK), education and guidance to access natural community supports, and crisis intervention.

  • Primary Care/Behavioral Health Integration Model Aunt Martha’s model of integrated care brings behavioral health (BH) services into the primary care clinic setting by offering routine mental health screening and access to treatment to: promote early detection and improved management of treatment; reduce the stigma of treating mental health disorders and offer convenience to patients; promote adherence and strengthen monitoring of the treatment plan; and, build on the existing, ongoing PCP and patient relationship.

Child Advocacy Center of McHenry County, Inc

The mission of the Child Advocacy Center of McHenry County is to reduce trauma to child victims of abuse through coordinating a timely, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary response in reported cases of child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse. The Child Advocacy Center of McHenry County serves all children under the age of 18 in McHenry County where there is a suspicion of child sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, and/or a child witness to a violent crime.

  • Child Advocacy Center of McHenry County provides services where professionals from various disciplines, including Law Enforcement, DCFS, Medical Health, Mental Health, and the State’s Attorney’s Office, converge to make decisions regarding the investigation, treatment, and prosecution of child abuse victims and child witnesses of violent crimes. The goal is to ensure that young victims receive child-focused services in a child sensitive environment, and non-offending family members receive support throughout the investigation process. This grant will support professional fees, including legal consultation, accounting and audit services, and specialized training for staff in areas such as trauma-informed care and forensic interviewing. These funds are essential to ensure the continued operation and growth of CACMC, enabling the center to effectively serve the community and meet the needs of victims of abuse.

Clearbrook provides services, programs and support for children and adults with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other intellectual/developmental disabilities, as well as their families.

  • CHOICE Program is a program that focuses on daily activities and curriculum that foster independence in each individual by providing opportunities for community-based employment, volunteering with various local and/or regional social service agencies and encouraging inclusion in community held social and recreational events.
  • Voucher Respite Program is a service that supports families who are caregivers to their loved one(s). Respite gives them an opportunity to receive a break from caregiving, knowing that their family member(s) is in caring, loving, and safe hands. It is vital and healthy for family members to rest and recharge. Through the Voucher Respite Program, Clearbrook serves, supports and creates possibilities and opportunities for the family members as well as the children and adults who are receiving services.
  • CILA Woodstock (capital project) to improve the Woodstock CILA. This funding will support renovating the basement, allowing another adult to live on the premise once completed.

  • Strengthening Stability: Financial Wellness for Mental Health Through comprehensive, client-centered counseling sessions, our counselors help individuals identify options and access resources that promote financial stability. As clients gain control over their financial situations, their anxiety is often reduced—allowing them to better focus on their mental health recovery and overall well-being..
  • Pathways to Stability: Financial Literacy for Mental Health Clients is a program that delivers no cost financial literacy workshops for clients served by McHenry County’s mental health and social service providers. Offered both in-person at partner sites and virtually via Zoom, the workshops reduce barriers related to transportation and mobility. CCCS collaborates with many MHB-funded agencies to teach essential financial skills that help participants improve their financial situations, navigate challenges, and build long-term resilience.  They also support agency staff who qualify as Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE), with workshops that can help them maintain housing and financial stability.

  • The Break Circle of Support Program The awareness of statistics underscoring the prevalence of substance misuse and mental health issues among youth aged 11-25 helps The Break tailor prevention & education program activities for members and community. The Break provides an after school, drop-in location for harm reduction and alternative sober activities such as a living room-style location housing a music production room, a social gathering space, and computers for work & gaming. The Break is also known for straight talk on social issues like depression, anxiety, violence, and others requested by members.

Family Health Partnership Clinic

The program is team-based with full integration between primary and behavioral health care including shared patient scheduling, shared treatment planning, and shared record keeping.
  • Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) offers patients (18 years and older) struggling with opioid dependence a chance to begin their journey in recovery by combining medication with individualized therapy.
  • Psychiatry services are provided through three (3) professionals (1x Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and 2x General Adult Psychiatrist) who, combined, provide patients of all ages with psychiatric evaluations, medication education, and medication monitoring.

Individuals receive a comprehensive mental health assessment and work with mental health professionals to develop treatment plans that guide and monitor progress in achieving desired outcomes.

NAMI-McHenry County is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to improving the quality of lives for those whose lives are affected by mental illness. NAMI-McHenry County offers an array of free services including self-help groups, educational classes, workshops, trainings, community presentations and advocacy.  These free services draw on the lived experience of individuals who have experienced mental illness in their lives.

  • Community Education Programs provide free, life-changing and life-saving education to county residents on mental health, suicide prevention, and accessing county resources. Our community education programs include: QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) Gatekeeper Suicide Prevention Training, Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), NAMI Ending the Silence, NAMI on Campus, Mental Health in the Workplace, NAMI In Our Own Voice, NAMI Talks, Demand-Driven Presentations, and Suicide Prevention Task Force.

New Directions is focused on providing a network of service that address substance abuse in the community. The organization’s focus is on three areas: advocacy, treatment, and continued support.

  • A Way Out and Connect to Recovery SUD Programing an impactful peer-driven Community Navigator (CN) program that embeds Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS) into two initiatives: the McHenry County A Way Out Program (AWO) and NDARS’ Connect-to-Recovery Program (C2R). CN staff navigate resources, providing recovery coaching, supporting family and caregivers, and coordinating the logistics of detox and treatment placement—all provided free of charge to the participant.
  • NDARS Sober Living Program includes two sober living homes in Crystal Lake, and The Retreat in Woodstock, which is recognized as a licensed SUPR Recovery Residence. A ¾ living apartment complex is currently under development in Woodstock, with plans to open with 12 new beds in 2026. The program provides a peer-based model that incorporates 12-step facilitation, Case Management, and intentional social support.

    The Other Side (TOS), a community sober bar and café offers a valuable space for individuals seeking social experiences without the presence of alcohol or other substances. TOS Peer Recovery Support Specialists (PRSS), in collaboration with staff from the A Way Out (AWO) program, facilitate weekly family support groups utilizing the evidence-based Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) model.

  • Psychiatric Emergency Services Operations and Aftercare provides a streamlined approach to utilize a person-first approach to treat patients experiencing mental illness while in the Emergency Department and following those patients after discharge to prevent readmission.
  • Substance Abuse Nurse Educator focuses on leveraging Northwestern Medicine, Mental Health Board, and community resources to enhance knowledge and accessibility to substance abuse information and services across McHenry County. This role supports the following key initiatives/partnerships: A Way Out Program, Community education and training events, Substance Awareness Coalition activities, Mother and newborn opioid initiatives, Nursing CEU Liaison, and other community planning initiatives promoting MHB strategic plan.

For adults, NIRC will provide medically monitored inpatient services including withdrawal management and Residential treatment, in addition to Outpatient services with supportive housing and IOP. These levels of care may include 24/7 nursing and recovery support, case management, counseling, discharge planning, physicals, medication management, therapy, and continuing care coordination, depending on the intensity of services.

  • Respite Services facilitates a voucher-based reimbursement system that allows families to access community-based recreation and leisure activities/services.

We offer Early Intervention service coordination through the Child & Family Connection (CFC) program. The Helping Us Grow (HUG) program provides in-home support to pregnant women and young children. The Autism Resource Center (ARC) supports people on the autism spectrum and their families through family education, educational advocacy, and a variety of group opportunities.

  • Autism Resource Center (ARC) provides support to individuals who have or are suspected to have an autism diagnosis, their families, and the related systems of care within the McHenry County community. Supports include resources & referrals, educational advocacy, family education, community trainings and support groups.

  • IDD Autism Day Program provides a structured, person-centered environment designed to support adults with Autism through individualized service planning and comprehensive daily programming. Core components of service delivery include: Skill development, education & socialization, community inclusion, therapeutic & sensory supports, and volunteer opportunities.
  • IDD Client and Family Services (CFS) programming offers individual training in all life skills areas to promote and/or maintain the highest level of independence.
  • IDD WON Day Program offers individuals a comprehensive array of opportunities designed to promote personal growth, community integration, and skill development. Participants engage in structured activities including socialization, recreation, classroom learning, leisure, and workplace skill-building. Community-based experiences such as shopping, fitness classes, bowling, banking, and dining out foster meaningful social interactions and help individuals build confidence in navigating everyday environments..
  • IDD Wellness Nurse plays a critical role in promoting health and well-being by ensuring that all clients have access to health education and physical wellness activities. Core components of the program include: exercise and nutrition education, monitoring of key health metrics, and medication administration & on-site treatment.
  • PADS Case Management the Case Managers and staff are responsible for carrying out a structured, individualized and closely supervised living/training experience designed to promote acquisition of independent living skills and community resource utilization for adults and their children. This includes services such as linkages to counseling, job training, education, and medical care help to address the root causes of their homelessness and to develop skills and attain resources needed to become self- sufficient. Case Management also provides community resources and life skills training.

Rosecrance offers comprehensive addiction services for adolescents and adults, including prevention, intervention, detoxification, inpatient and outpatient treatment, experiential therapies, dual-diagnosis care, and family education.

  • Interpreting Services for individuals with communication-related disabilities affecting communication or with limited English proficiency shall have an equal opportunity to participate in services, activities, programs and other benefits. Interpreting services are used to promote meaningful and effective communication with those individuals to the extent possible.
  • Medication Assisted Therapies (MAT) services are offered to those that may benefit in their journey to stay drug free. Combined with counseling services these medications have been proven to help those struggling to recover from their opioid use disorder.
  • Mental Health Services are family-centered, designed to help individuals and their loved ones build the tools needed to restore health and stability. The licensed clinical teams provide expert care for a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder.

Offering three distinct levels of care: Community Support Individual (CSI), Community Support Team (CST), and Assertive Community Treatment (ACT). The program also offers clinic-based services for individuals across the lifespan. These include individual, group, and family therapy for adults, children, and youth.

  • Recovery Support and Treatment, New Horizons ensure that clinical services in the form of recovery support are provided to the formerly homeless veterans going through the transitional living program, New Horizons. These services are provided while the veterans reside in the program as well as after discharge if they choose the ongoing support.
  • Recovery Support and Treatment, Peer Support Group is comprised of three to four veterans who are certified as or working towards certification as peer support specialists, who manage the drop-in resource center at the agency. They receive phone calls, emails and drop-in visits from veterans and/or veteran family members who need mental health or recovery support for any reason and provide support groups aimed at decreasing isolation and increasing recovery efforts.

  • C/V Advocate Court Victims Advocacy services include: crisis intervention and stabilization, secure emergency shelter, legal and non-legal advocacy, individual and group counseling, support groups and referral services.
  • CVA Outreach Events provides free presentations to bring awareness to the community and to challenge the societal norms that reinforce behaviors and attitudes that perpetuate domestic violence. The advocates distribute written information that can be shared with family and friends to further meet the goal of bringing awareness throughout McHenry County to prevent violence and to provide services to assist those that encounter domestic violence.
  • Partner Abuse Treatment and Prevention Program (PATPP) provides education to adults, mostly men, who are abusive or are at risk of abusing their partners or family members. The program is an extension of survivors’ services in that it functions as a way to stop or limit the violence other individuals might experience with the client in the future.
  • Positive Parenting Interventions a psycho-educational group therapy for parents who commit to utilizing parenting strategies that support healthy physical, social, and emotional child development.
  • Trauma Based Services provides mental health therapy through licensed therapists and clinicians. The program utilizes various evidence-based techniques such as trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma Recovery Empowerment Model (TREM), and offers individual and group therapy for women, men, and children.

  • Street Outreach Program delivers effective street outreach and community support in the county. Warp Corps’ Street Outreach Program is committed to quality case management and assisting individuals with navigation of various services within the CoC and Mental Health Board Network to aid in the process of overcoming homelessness. The outreach team assists clients with obtaining personal identification documents, maintaining relationships with others in their lives, and taking steps to increase the clients’ independence and mental health. With a boots-on-the-ground approach to meet clients where they are at, be it homeless encampments, local businesses, or community events.
  • Youth Prevention Through Engagement Program utilizes what the organization has identified as “Reality-Based Harm Reduction Strategies” in order to bolster mental wellness and curb detrimental outcomes (homelessness, suicide & substance abuse/overdose) that result from a lack of mental health support for youth demographics. Specifically, this program focuses on the areas of music, art & action sports/outdoor activities as a way to expose young people to positive alternative outlets.

  • Family Service Program aims to equip, empower, and encourage youth to grow emotionally, socially, and academically. Programming meets developmental needs by age: elementary youth receive foundational support in emotional regulation and communication; middle schoolers focus on identity-building and decision-making; high school youth engage in leadership, mentoring, and post-secondary prep. After-school services emphasize social-emotional learning and academics, while summer programs offer experiential learning, career exploration, recreation, and field trips.
  • Bilingual Service Navigation Program supports individuals and families in navigating their diverse needs and facilitates community linkage, including access to mental health services.
