Program Description: Positive psychology research has exploded in the past 20 years. Positive psychology is not a “fluffy” concept which ignores the realities of life, nor is it simply thinking positively. According to Martin Seligman, often credited as being the founding father of positive psychology, positive psychology is “the study of what constitutes the pleasant life, the engaged life, and the meaningful life.” This seminar will describe different happiness archetypes and explain why one archetype is more correlated with overall happiness. It will also describe the PERMA model of wellbeing with an emphasis on both research and application to daily life. You will learn concrete ways to help (you and) your clients live more satisfying and meaningful lives.
Program Goals:
1. Participants will be able to describe the four different happiness archetypes as outlined by Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar.
2. Participants will be able to describe the PERMA model of wellbeing.
3. Participants will be able to describe how enhancing positive emotion helps in the treatment of depression.
